This would be a cool project but a ton of work has to go in to even establishing the method of making a tier list, especially since so much of the community (evidenced by some of the other replies) doesn't want a tier list in the first place. Lastly, how would the data be collected? Individual stances being broken down or discussed among top players would both make sense, but neither is conclusive. Top players matter more? How much more? Should everyone's opinion be valid? Green names count double? The next thing would be judging the worthiness of opinions in general. Kragg is on the lower end of the theoretical power level but on the higher end in real life, in my opinion. Would the tier list be a character's on-paper peak ability or practical application? For example, Fox is the best practical character in Melee while Yoshi is theoretically invincible if played at a superhuman level. The first thing you would have to do is come up with set criteria. I hope other people becomes interested and provides assistance in this project. With that being said, I'm willing to colaborate in editing and or other tasks. Maybe even add a votation to contrast it with the opinion of the average player.
I don't it is unreasonable to gather a group of high level players around top 25, ask their opinions and manifest it in the form of text and graphics. I can understand why tier list were irrelevant on Early Access, but it's being a really long time since the 1.0.0 version was released, we had plenty of major upgrades.
Give an insight of how the match ups are currently played and evaluate what possible improvements could be made by the players in said match ups. What a tier list should provide is a discussion about the meta, provide arguments attempting to justify the position of the characters.
This isn't about proving your worthiness as a low tier hero or about sticking the tier list in the face of the developers to ask for nerfs or buffs to specific characters. Why a tier list could be beneficial for the community? If someone created the perfect tier list, with every single character in the correct tier and in the correct order, it wouldn't be very helpful or informative. On top of that Rivals of Aether receives frequent balance patches during the year. And I know, most people think that Rivals of Aether is a well-balanced game. I know, many people consider that tier lists have very little use (most recent tier lists were intentionally or unintentionally a meme). I know, this is brought every single month either in the subreddit or the discord server.
